Asian Graduate Student Fellowships 2010 in Singapore

The Asia Research Institute of NUS invites applications from citizens of Asian countries enrolled for a fulltime advanced degree at a university in an Asian country (except Singapore) for consideration for the award of Asian Graduate Student Fellowships. These fellowships are offered to current graduate students doing their Master’s or PhD degrees and working in the Humanities and Social Sciences on Southeast Asian topics, and will allow the recipients to be based at NUS for an ‘in residence fellowship’ for a period of three months. The aim of the fellowship is to enable scholars to make full use of the wide range of resources held in the libraries of NUS and the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. Scholars will be expected to commence on 3 May 2010, and to make a presentation on their work at the Singapore Graduate Forum on Southeast Asian Studies at the end of July 2010.

Successful candidates can expect the following benefits:

1) A monthly allowance of SGD1,000.
2) A monthly housing allowance of SGD250.
3) A settling-in allowance of SGD150.
4) A sum of $100 on a reimbursement basis for miscellaneous expenses
5) A one-time round trip travel subsidy by the most economical and direct route on a reimbursement basis upon being accepted for the fellowship.
6) Access to library and computer resources on campus.

Applicants are invited to e-mail/facsimile/mail their application forms, a 2-page outline of their research proposal in English (this may be accompanied by a longer statement in a Southeast Asian language) to the address below by 15 November 2009. Arrangements should also be made by which at least two letters of reference, one of which is from your principal supervisor, are sent confidentially to the same address by the same deadline.

The 2-page research proposal must include the following details:

1) Whether the data collection or fieldwork stage of the research has already been completed;
2) how the fellowship will contribute to the research;
3) the types of sources to be consulted in Singapore;
4) proposed work plan during the fellowship.

The George J. Mitchell Scholarship is a national competitive award sponsored by the US-Ireland Alliance. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR

Should have completed Master’s Degree in the subject or allied fields with minimum 60% marks in Sustainable Rural Livelihoods or Education or Primary Health for applying for Ph.D. For Masters Degree, candidate should have completed Bachelor’s Degree in the above subjects or allied fields with minimum 60% marks. Where percentage of marks is not available and grades are mentioned, the candidates must indicate the conversion formula adopted by the University/Institution and should also indicate equivalent percentage of marks. Candidates are encouraged to secure admission to their preferred New Zealand education Institution in advance of Scholarship application. Evidence of admission should be attached with the application form or produced at the time of interview. Otherwise, he/she will not be given any TA for attending the interview. Study at Ph.D level will only be considered where particularly strong development relevance is demonstrated.

AGE

The candidate should not be more than 40 years of age as on 15.06.2009.

VALUE

(a) Travel to and fro from New Zealand by the shortest route and economy class as arranged by the authorities of the donor country (No provision has been included for the expenses of the dependents).

(b) Expenditure on board and lodging, books and other study material, tuition fee, internal travel related to the studies and medical care will be met by the New Zealand Government.


General Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants for the scheme must satisfy the following general eligibility criteria and any pre-determined, country or regional-specific selection criteria set by NZAID and the nominating authorities. At a minimum, to be eligible to apply for a scholarship, applicants must:

• have citizenship of a participating developing Commonwealth country;

• be residing in their home country for at least two years prior to application;

• not have citizenship or permanent residence status of New Zealand or Australia, or another developed country, except where their country does not issue passports and they hold a New Zealand passport.

• not be married or engaged to be married to a person who holds, or who is eligible to hold, citizenship or permanent residence status of New Zealand, Australia or another developed country, except where their country does not issue passports and they hold a New Zealand passport.

• be aged 17 and over before the scholarship start date and be under 40 years of age at the time of application;

• be applying to commence a new qualification and not be seeking funding for one already commenced in New Zealand or another country.

• Not have completed, or nearly completed, a qualification at a similar level (i.e. applicants must be applying to commence a qualification which is at a higher level than any previously attained), unless strong development relevance is demonstrated.

• Satisfy the admission requirements of the New Zealand education institution in which the qualification is to be undertaken, including English Language criteria;

• Have been working in their country of citizenship, preferably for at least two years prior to application;

• Hold a Bachelors degree of upper second class standard, or higher, relevant to the proposed postgraduate qualification; and

• Be available to take up the scholarship in the academic year for which it is offered.

OFID Scholarship Award 2009/10
OFID (The OPEC Fund for International Development) is pleased to announce that qualified undergraduate students are welcome to apply for the OFID Scholarship 2009/10. The OFID Scholarship will be awarded to support an undergraduate student from any developing country, to pursue higher education in a relevant field of development, in any recognized university/college in the world.
Through its scholarship scheme, OFID aims to help highly motivated, highly driven individuals overcome one of the biggest challenges to their careers – the cost of advanced professional or graduate training. The winner of the OFID Award will receive a scholarship of up to US$100,000 The funds will be spread over a maximum of two years, toward the completion of a Master's degree, or its equivalent, at an accredited educational institution, starting in the autumn of the academic year 2009/10.
I.EligibilityTo be eligible the candidate must meet ALL of the following criteria: :
Must be between the ages of 23-32 at the time of submitting his/her application.
Must be a graduating student with a Baccalaureate from a four-year, accredited college/university, or its equivalent.
Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 rating system, or its equivalent.
Must be matriculated at an accredited university for the upcoming academic year starting September 2009, and must maintain full-time status for the duration of the Masters Degree.
Must be a national of a developing country (please see list of eligible countries)
Must select a subject of study that pertains to OFID's core mission, such as: economics of development (poverty reduction, energy and sustainable development), environment (desertification), or other related science and technology fields.

II.Disbursement of the Scholarship Fund
The terms and conditions of payment will be determined in coordination with the student upon his/her selection in accordance with the following guidelines:
The tuition fees, including any supplementary examination fees, as may be required by the academic institution, will be paid by OFID directly to the academic institution. Health insurance will be paid in accordance with the institution's own standard medical scheme.
A monthly allowance to cover living expenses, books and accommodation, will be transferred to the student's own personal bank account on a quarterly basis.
Prior to the start of his/her first year studies, the student will be paid a relocation grant, equal to two-month allowance. OFID will also pay for travel costs from the nearest airport to the student's place of residence, to the nearest airport to the chosen place of study. Upon completion of the studies, the student will be paid the cost of one-way air ticket to his/her home country.
III.Required documents
A completed on-line application form.
A scanned copy of the last university degree or certificate.
A scanned letter of acceptance from your chosen educational institution, confirming your admission, subject of study and duration of the Master's degree program (must not exceed a maximum of two years).
A proof of meeting any prerequisites, including language proficiency.
A short essay – of about 250 words in English – giving reasons for applying for OFID's scholarship, explaining your educational goals, and clearly describing how you will use the experience gained from your Masters degree studies to help in the development of your home country.
Two letters of recommendation from professors and/or lecturers at applicant's present university.

THE INDONESIAN YOUNG LEADERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME
The Indonesian Young Leaders Programme is a scholarship programme from 2006 until 2011 – which strives to enhance Indonesia's future leadership by upgrading –present and future- human resources of institutions of higher Islamic education. The Programme consist of two strongly linked and mutually reinforcing instruments: 1.International Conference and 2.Education and training (Upgrading Courses, MA and PhD).
Selection Criteria:
Target Group : Bachelor
Purpose : Study
Field of Study : Islamic Studies
Eligible Candidates :
- Be an Indonesian National
- Have a S1 degree from either a state sponsored or non state sponsored University
- Have a background in Islamic Studies
- Willing to take part in the Programme fulltime for the complete duration of the scholarship.
- Have a high level of English Proficiency (TOEFL550, after pre departure English training)
- Be in good health
- Not be above the age of 40 years (men) or 45 years (women) on the application deadline
Upgrading Courses
Thirty fellowships will be made available for students or staff who have obtained their BA in a field other than Islamic Studies at one of the state sponsored Islamic Universities or institutions of higher education. Based on the field studied during the BA programme a suitable upgrading course will be drafted. The students can take part in course offered within the framework of the MA in Islamic Studies in Islamic Studies at Leiden University or course offered at other Universities and Institutes in the Netherlands.

MA COURSE
In Sum,, 30 MA fellowships will be made available and allotted to the Islamic studies programme in Leiden over the course of five years. The focus of this MA programme is on research methodology and consist of both classical disciplines and social science. It aims to equip students with a critical attitude and the necessary intellectual instruments to analyze societal and religious issues.

Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program Application 2009-2010
The government of Japan and the World bank invite applications from mid-career professionals in developing countries for The Joint Japan/World bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP). The application deadline for the program is March 31st, 2009.
The program supports studies at the master’s degree level in fields related to development at universities in World Bank member countries.
In 2009, the Program collaborates with 41 higher education institutions worldwide and candidates are encouraged to apply to one of these institutions. Applications to other higher education institutions will also be considered.
The Program covers full tuition, the cost of basic medical and accident insurance, a monthly subsistence allowance and economy air travel.
