2010-2011 George J. Mitchell Scholarship - US-Ireland Alliance

Apply now for the 2010-2011 George J. Mitchell Scholarship. The deadline is Midnight Eastern Daylight Time, Monday, October 5, 2009.

The George J. Mitchell Scholarship is a national competitive award sponsored by the US-Ireland Alliance. Named in honor of the former U.S. Senator’s pivotal contribution to the Northern Ireland peace process, the Mitchell is designed to introduce and connect upcoming generations of future American leaders to the island of Ireland, while recognizing and fostering intellectual achievement, leadership, and a commitment to public service and community.

All applications for the Mitchell Scholarship must be submitted electronically through this website. Applicants are encouraged to begin preparing their applications well in advance of the deadline. Supporting documents must be received in our office by Monday, October 5, 2009.

Applications must be submitted both to the European authority, the EACEA (using this form) and to the Partner Country’s authorities (using the Partner Country’s application form)

OBJECTIVES OF THE ICI-ECP ACTIVITIES

The ICI- ECP activities have the following objectives:

The general objective shall be:

• to enhance mutual understanding between the peoples of the EU and the Partner Countries including broader knowledge of their languages, cultures and institutions.

• to enhance the quality of higher education and training by stimulating balanced partnerships between higher education and vocational institutions in Europe and in the Partner Countries.

The specific objectives shall be:

• to support cooperation between higher education and vocational training institutions with a view to promoting joint study programmes and mobility;

• to foster the mobility of students between the European Union and the Partner Countries by promoting transparency, mutual recognition of qualifications and periods of study, research and training, and, where appropriate, portability of credits;

• to support the mobility of professionals (teaching and administrative staff) with a view to improving mutual understanding, and expertise, of issues relevant to the relations between the European Union and the Partner Countries;
